Egress Guide Sign Program

DAWA, Inc. was tasked with designing an egress guide sign program for the space restricted Right of Ways typical of an urban environment.
DAWA commenced by challenging the standards for the minimum size shield allowed in the MUTCD (24 inches). Using the logic of legibility for guide signs in the same MUTCD standards, DAWA obtained approval from FHWA and NCDOT to implement a pilot project where the minimum size of shields is based on the letter height of the number in the shield that is appropriate for the particular speed limit where it will be placed in the urban setting.
